Spot the eggs and help science!

TheSensory Ecology & Evolution group over at the University of Exeter have put a few games together to explore and help understand the evolution of perception. The games revolve around playing the role of a predator trying to find birds and eggs to eat. You can play the role of different predators as you play a ‘hidden object‘ style of game.

There’s one to find eggs WhereIsThatNightjarand another to find birds.

They give a really neat perspective on how difficult it is to find camouflaged animals and their eggs in natural surroundings.

Just one warngin, however, they’re a lot harder than they look! I was a terrbile predator and am very glad that I can get what I need to eat at the grocery store.

Give it a try and help some scientists better understand sensory evolution.

Good luck!

I'm an evolutionary biologist interested in understanding why we're so drawn to video games and why we gain so much enjoyment from them.

March 7,2012

Just like rock music in the 1950s, Dungeons & Dragons in the 1980s, and death metal in the 1990s, videogaming has been demonised by parent groups. For decades, gamers were portrayed as obese social outcasts that spent hours in a dark basement hunched ...
